Fairest One

Soft peachy pale pink with a vague white eye.

Plant Description

A pale baby pink, with a hint of peachiness, and faint streaks of paler pink. With the cream-colored blazing concentrated around the eye, and the dark pink buds, it’s a real beauty.
But on the darker side, this cultivar is a challenge to keep clear of mildew, and if it wasn’t for the beautiful color, I can’t imagine many would bother to try. Yet it can be done, largely through strict attention to culture (which works for me), or by using preventative sprays (please see the ‘All About Phlox’ page for further info). For example, in our poor, dry propagation field, these plants nearly weep with the weight of the mildew, yet not 50 yards away, in a rich and well-watered border, they grow heartily with nice green leaves. Excellent culture is a must in order for this one to be truly fair but even with that, it is not a good choice for regions with hot humid summers.

This phlox description is here for reference only, and the plant is not currently available for mail-order shipping. However it may be available potted-up for on-site sales at the nursery, or with advance notice.
