Blue Boy
Pale lilac blue by day, turns soft blue in twilight
Plant Description
This old cultivar was one of the earliest of the so-called ‘blue’ phlox, the ‘changelings’ that turn on the charm under dusky or cloudy conditions. ‘Blue Boy’ is frankly a bit of a lavender bore on a sunny afternoon, but becomes slightly more interesting at day’s end, when he turns a soft blue. Not terrifically floriferous, and the pips are on the small side, but it does bloom quite late in the season. Sadly, we have found it quite prone to mildew, and so extra attention needs to be paid to culture and preventative treatments if you want to keep this old boy shipshape.
This phlox description is here for reference only, and the plant is not currently available for mail-order shipping. However it may be available potted-up for on-site sales at the nursery, or with advance notice.
