Plant Description

The base color of Phlox ‘Progress’ is blue-lavender, overlaid with what I call a ‘watercolor wash’ of paler and darker highlights, centering on a solidly violet eye. A rare old cultivar from the mid-20th century, it was introduced by the famous British phlox breeder B.H.B.Symons-Jeune, who points out that it is “certainly in the front rank. The deep violet pips, nearly 2” across are very round and lie flatly together without any gaps, and the plant…has a very good constitution.” I agree about the strong constitution, but most years it does, unfortunately, suffer from serious powdery mildew, so be prepared to treat it.

This phlox description is here for reference only, and the plant is not currently available for mail-order shipping. However it may be available potted-up for on-site sales at the nursery, or with advance notice.
